Day 28: Sat 6 Jan - Kumbia to Home, 252km; total towed: 3,726km; total driven: 4,439km

21-28 Deg C, a warm night, dry morning, and a wet afternoon and evening

We left our Kumbia donation camp a little after 6am; why? Because we were keen to get home. We knew we didn't have far to go however, when you're on the homeward stretch, you just want to get stuck into unpacking, cleaning and washing. 

An early mornos was had at Kilkivan. After refuelling the Cruiser, we parked at the oval and brewed up in the van and shared a vanilla slice we had bought from the Murgon bakery. Not the best slice we've ever had; the custard was good, but the icing on the top was so sweet and not very nice at all.

Not long after mornos, we were back home. The yard was almost unrecognisable due to the large amount of rain received whilst we were away; Wendy tipped out 183mm from the last four weeks. Whilst not the wettest Dec on our records, it was up there. Our lovely neighbours had mowed around the front entrance to make it look like someone was home, and another mowed the front lawn. Thank you Terry and Klas, much appreciated.

Before we did anything we had another coffee in the van. Then came the laborious task of unloading everything. By lunch time, the food was back in the house, as were Wendy's clothes and other stuff. Greg was busy uncovering the solar hot water panels, unpacking the two bikes, reassembling his and placing them bikes on charge, etc, etc.

We both had a little rest after lunch, then Wendy put a load of washing on. 

As it is a Saturday, we dined out at Howard pub with Kev and Jo. An early night was had.

We really enjoyed seeing all the Beswicks again and catching up with Bob and Noeleene. We loved the fact that you could go cycling every day on separate cycle paths away from the maniac motorists. If it wasn't for the freezing cold winter weather we would call Canberra home. But we just love the quiet life on the Hippo Farm and love coming home, regardless of where we've been.

17-33 deg C, fine and sunny to very nasty weather with high winds and hail in the afternoon After a quick morning walk, we went grocery shopping. After we had unpacked it all into the van, we had mornos, then drove over to Wendy's parents to help set up the place for a family pre-Christmas dinner.  We returned to the van for lunch and a rest. The wind had gotten really strong and we knew there was a storm on the way however, had no idea of just how nasty it was going to become. At one stage, we were each holding onto an awning strut to ensure we didn't do a Mary Poppins and fly away. Yes, the awning was tied down, but the wind was so bad that some of the pegs were starting to come loose! Day 22: Sun 31 Dec - Canberra

11-22 deg C with a very lazy and icy wind Ride: 30km; total: 391km We rode to Jamison this morning, with jackets and ear warmers on and still didn't get warm. We met mum and dad there to have breakfast with them at their favourite cafe but it was closed. Never mind, Greg spotted Divine Cafe and Bar across the car park. The food was yummy and the coffee was good. We chatted for a while until we started getting cold, then left for home. We took a new path for us on this visit to get to the lake, and then the same old route from there back to the van. After another coffee, we jumped back into bed as it was cold. An hour later we were up for lunch, then another little rest in preparation for the night's activities. Greg dropped Wendy off at Dale and Suz's then returned to the van for dinner. Day 7: Sat 16 Dec - Coonabarabran to Forbes, 312km; total towed: 2,008km

22 (FL 20, Coonabarabran) - 33 deg C (Forbes) Walk: 8km; total: 32km About 8pm last night, we closed all the windows and blinds and put the aircon on as it was still about 30 deg C when we were ready for bed! Neither of us slept that well knowing that Wendy's ebike was on the back of the van and we could not hear if anyone was trying to have a lend of it. It was nice and cool in the van though. Since we had the aircon replaced in 2021, the cutting in and out is a lot smoother and we hardly noticed it, a real bonus. We were on the road to Gilgandra just before 8am with a noticeable increase in traffic. We had mornos at Gilgandra alongside the windmills and the Castlereagh River. We refuelled on the northern outskirts of Dubbo and brunched on the southside of Parkes.  We have noticed an increase in RV traffic (caravans, camper trailers, and everything in between) in the last 24 hours, mainly due to NSW school holidays starting yesterday afternoon.
